Mule Train on the Bright Angel Trail. We passed several of these trains on our way up to the South Rim. This shot was taken just before I entered Jacobs Ladder, the switchbacks up through the Redwall. At the top of the Redwall in this area is one of the few sections in the Grand Canyon where you can see the newest discovery among the rock layers, the Surprise Canyon Formation. It occurs in isolated rock channels between the Supai and the Redwall. Sections of it are a lot thicker in the western part of the Grand Canyon. |
