Remains of Bert Loper's boat. Bert Loper, the Grand Old Man of the Canyon, apparently died of a heart attack as he went through 24.5 Mile Rapids when he was 80 years old. His boat was found down here just below Buck Farm Canyon, and about 41.3. That's nearly 17 miles down stream. His bones were found just above Unkar Delta, near Cardenas Creek, 71 miles below Lees Ferry. I expect that Bert died the way he wanted to, - in the Canyon. |
