Day 1 - Day trip up to the Canyon

Forward to day 2
I did not go up to the Canyon early this morning, for sunrise, like I had originally planned. I was awake but I just stayed in bed... just could not make myself get out. I finally did get up around 6 or so and then around 8 went out to breakfast with my next door neighbor, Melissa, and her kids. It was nice.

I did some more shopping for the trip this morning and actually found the rodent proof food container that I was looking for. It's a tight wire mesh with a thick velcro closure and should definitely keep the food safe from the mice over at Clear Creek. Supposedly the ravens can get into these things though so the ranger I talked to up at the Canyon suggest I hang it as well. Ravens are bloody intelligent birds... first it's zippers... now velcro... nothing is safe. I still love the ravens. I still hates meeses to pieces. :)

I went up to the Canyon to get my backcountry permit changed and now I have a $60 credit. I also lucked out on getting an open site at Bright Angel Campground for the last night which means no dry camp on the Clear Creek trail and also a much easier last day.

I discovered a few antelope just south of Valle on the way up to the Canyon and then found a few more just a little on the north side.

While up at the Canyon I did some walking around on the rim trail, taking in the other tourists up there mostly. I also went to the Kolb Studio to check out the current exhibit.

Things are looking good. I can't wait to hit the trail on Tuesday morning.
