Day 2 - Packing gear

Forward to day 3
Today was mostly a day for packing and the cats tried ever so hard to help me with it.

I stuffed all of the food into the Ratsack that I bought yesterday and then stuffed that into another bag. It is a lot of food but the large Ratsack is very large and it is still only half full. This is good as there will be plenty of room in there for food even when I do a trip of several days with Robin.

I also picked up the satellite phone from PRO this afternoon and tested that out and everything seems to be in good working order.

Everything is in the pack and I am ready to go. I will not be taking much in the way of water as I know I am not going to need a lot just to get down to Phantom. I will fill up my 2 one-liter bottles and take those and that will likely be more than enough. The hard part will be refilling those as well as my 4-liter bag once I leave Phantom tomorrow afternoon.

The snow we were supposed to get last night never came and now they are saying perhaps later this afternoon or this evening. It was a bright sunny morning here with not a cloud in the sky. It was only 18°F at 6 this morning when I got up and the expected high was only supposed to be 41 but at last check the temperature was already in the upper 40s. Tomorrow is still supposed to be sunny with an expected high of 66 at the south rim. That means it could easily be 85-90 in the inner canyon. The temps for my hike are mostly supposed to be in the upper 50s and low 60s on the rim... add 20-25 for the inner Canyon. There are "Few Showers" forecast for Saturday and Monday and Tuesday of next week. Showers on the rim seldom reach the floor of the Canyon though so the weather is looking pretty good.

I went out to Beaver Street Brewery with my roommate last night for pizza and beer last night. I think I am going to take it easy and just have a Lean Cuisine and a salad tonight. I had a bagel for breakfast this morning and picked up one to have tomorrow morning, hopefully while watching sunrise at Cedar Ridge. I should be down at Phantom Ranch by 10... 11 at the latest... and will pick up a sack lunch to eat there. I plan to rest there for a few hours before heading up onto the Clear Creek trail. Hopefully I will be able to make it within a couple/few miles of Clear Creek before days end tomorrow.
