We were up early this morning and drove back up to the Canyon for the Grand Canyon Associations Member's Day.

We had a very nice breakfast at the El Tovar first and then headed over to the Community Center for our first GCA Member's Day Event---A Photographic Narrative. This session was given by Richard Maack, Photography Editor for Arizona Highways and it was pretty good. I think I may have actually picked up a few useful tips.

Our second session, Name Dropping, was given by Henry Karpinski. Henry is a real character and listening to him talk about name changes of features and place in the Grand Canyon this time around quickly had me remembering how much I enjoyed his talk at last years event. If he ever decides to give up his career with the Park Service he would probably have a good future as a stand-up comedian.

After Henry's talk we took the shuttle over to Shoshone Point for lunch. We had a very nice boxed lunch with too much food and not enough time to eat it. They did a very nice job of planning this event but they needed to allow for more time to get people over to Shoshone Point for lunch and then back to the village.

Our afternoon sessions were very nice as well. The first, a walk along the rim and a talk about plants and how they have adapted to conditions at Grand Canyon, was given by Sally Underwood from the Grand Canyon Field Institute. Sally is another one of those Grand Canyon personalities that I never tire of listening too. The second afternoon session was back at the Community Center and was about educational topics at Grand Canyon. It was pretty good but I don't even remember the name of the ranger who gave it. I do remember playing a little game, something like "20 questions" and trying to identify the picture of an animal that was pinned to our backs, that was quite amusing. I finally got it but I don't remember what it was or how many questions it took... not too many actually. I think it may have been a bighorn sheep.

After the last session we wandered around the rim for a while and then had dinner at the Arizona Room. I've never been disappointed with the food there and this time was no exception.

After dinner we went over to Grandeur Point for a magnificent sunset and then to another performance of the Grand Canyon Music Festival over at the Shrine of the Ages.

It was a long day but a very enjoyable one.
