SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 & 20
THE TRIP HOME

We said our goodbyes to Al and started South. Missed our turn on highway 180, and went on to Williams, then took Interstate 40 to flagstaff. Only a few miles out of the way and it gave us an opportunity to grab a bite to eat at the same restaurant in Flagstaff where we had eaten before. Went on to the Museum of Northern Arizona to see the displays and visit the gift shop. We both purchased more gifts, then drove on to Phoenix. We made it to the Howard Johnson Motel taking a circuitous route thru the airport. Don't know exactly how we did to, but we arrived at the motel, gassed up the rental car as contracted, and turned the car in. When we checked into the motel we found out they had no shuttle service, but they would have a taxi waiting for is at 4:30 to take us to the airport. They did and we arrived at Sky Harbor in plenty of time to clear security. The flight home was good, smooth and uneventful. A good trip. A great trip. Nancy and Ashley met us at the airport. Phil had no trouble getting home as he had the keys to his car the whole time. He had backpacked them all the way through the Grand Canyon.

Distance: 25 miles as the hiker treads.
Elevations: North Rim 8241 ft.
Colorado River: 2425 ft.
South Rim: 6860 ft.
The record time for the rim to rim is just under four hours.
