It was very windy that night and the tent buckled considerably several times but it held its own and was still standing in the morning. I don't remember what time we finally got up but the sun had beaten us to it. We packed up quickly, loaded everything back into the car, and headed to Jacob Lake for breakfast. The only upside to the night was that we had probably saved $100 by not being able to find a room. We wasted a little money on gas looking for a room but the car he had was small and getting excellent mileage so that was not a big deal.

After breakfast we headed back into the park. I had planned to drive out to the viewpoints at Point Imperial and Cape Royal again, and maybe even day hike out to Cape Final, but the road heading out there was closed because of some blown down trees and the Park Service did not know when it would reopen. To add to my disappointment the Canyon itself was filled with smoke from some prescribed burns on the south rim and there really wasn't much to look at there. We ended up spending the morning hanging around Grand Canyon Lodge and just relaxing. There were some guys with telescopes setup on the patio and they were letting people look at sun spots and solar prominences so that was pretty cool.

We had lunch at the snack shop again and after that headed over to Kaibab Lodge around 2 to try and check-in. They would not let us check-in until 3 so we just hung out in lobby and waited. I discovered that they had free wireless Internet access and was actually able to check e-mail for the first time in about a week and also uploaded some photos. At 3 we got our room, got the car unloaded, took showers and then headed back into the park. By late in the afternoon the smoke finally cleared out of the Canyon and the sunset was very nice.

We ended up getting some pizza from the snack shop and took it over to the saloon to wash it down with some beer for dinner. After that we headed over to the evening program at the lodge which as luck would have it was about Grand Canyon waterfalls.
