Trip Report - December, 2005 - South Kaibab, North Kaibab, River and Bright Angel trails

The primary purpose of this trip was to take some friends on their first backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon, which turned out to be their first backpacking trip of any kind... ever. They did very well for first-timers and a good time was had by all.

On the first day, following a sumptuous breakfast at the Maswik cafeteria, we headed down the South Kaibab Trail to Bright Angel Campground. That afternoon we also visited Phantom Ranch.

On the second day we went for a day hike up along Bright Angel Creek on the North Kaibab Trail. We were going to try for Ribbon Falls but we didn't make it.

On the final day we hiked back out to the south rim on the River and Bright Angel trails. I had to leave the party at Indian Garden and race back up to the rim to collect our duffel (which was sent out by mule) at the mule barn before they closed for the day.
