06:00 - Overhang Camp

Jornada did not seem to recharge so I didt want to use it too much. Hopefully I can get it back to to full power today. Eat breakfast down by the creek. Replenish water supply.

07:10 - Overhang Camp

Out of camp.

07:30 - Phantom/Haunted confluence

Follow creek bed (east side) for the most part. Some trails. Climb high for good view. Mule deer leg and other kill around. Mountain Lion maybe? Field of Mariposa lilies - beautiful. Rest until 8:10 and take some photos.

09:30 - Haunted Canyon

Pretty easy going along creek but sometimes I am forced to climb out to avoid falls and dense patches of brush. Spent some times searching for the ruins below the Tapeats cliffs on the east side but didnt find anything. Sun came over east rim at 9:15 and almost at the same time clouds started to build on the north rim. It has ben very cool and breezy all morning. Stop to rest until 9:40. I am in the Bright Angel shale and getting close to the Muav. Canyon looks like it is starting to close in up ahead.

09:50 - Haunted Canyon

Haunted Spring. Look for source. Hoping for something magical like Abyss Cave but it is not to be. Take some photos anyway. Wait for Sun.

10:15 - Haunted Canyon

Going again. Creek is bone dry above the spring. Numerous twists and turns in canyon - seems to be un-ending.

11:30 - Upper Haunted Canyon

Dry falls in Redwall. Amphitheatre with three falls on different sides. Middle one looks climable - not sheer and numerous ledges/bumbs. Also a ravine to the right/east of this which looks climable. I am tempted to go up but know I will be even more tempted continue if I make it. Water is in short supply and there is nothing up here. Start back.

12:00 - Upper Haunted Canyon

Stop for lunch until 12:30.

12:50 - Haunted Canyon

Back at Haunted Tower.

13:45 - Haunted Canyon

Back at Haunted Spring.

15:45 - Overhang Camp

Back at camp. Stopped to take photos a number of times and once to refill water bottles. Go down to creek to clean up. Sky has clouded up again a couple of times today. It is clouding up again now and this time it looks rather menacing. Try to charge Jornada but doesnt work well without sun. Wind is starting to feel rather chilly.

17:00 - Overhang Camp

Have dinner: tuna sandwiches and potato chips. Too cold down by the creek, eat at camp. I think its going to be a cold night. Afraid to use Jornada - power is getting low. Maybe just read a chapter.
