I did not have a good nights sleep and had some very strange dreams that I would not care to get into here.

I was up at 06:00 but not on the trail until 07:40. I stopped to talk with the other campers who were heading back to Phantom Ranch today. The leader of their group talked about another waterfall, Ariel Falls, that sometimes runs even when Cheyava doesn't. He didn't know exactly where it was or how to get to it but I suspected it probably came off of Ariel Point somewhere and could be the source of the other creek that flows into Clear Creek. I decide to head up that way and check it out instead of heading up towards Deva. It was something new and different and that's all I was looking for.

At 09:00 I stopped for a rest, getting close to top of Tapeats again. I would first take the right fork to northeast, since that seemed to be where most of the water was coming from. According to the topo map there was another fork further up the creek and I assumed that I would take the left one there since that led up towards Ariel Point. At 09:15 I reached the top of Tapeats and took the right fork to northeast. There was somewhat of a trail at first - footprints anyway - but they eventually went away and I was on my own. I climbed high to get around a cliff on the north bank (maybe I should have been on the other side?) and encountered lots of loose rubble on fairly steep slopes. I began getting scared because if anything happened to me no one knew I was up here today. It always pays to be more cautious when you are breaking with your planned itinerary. I decided to head down and cross the creek. There was no trail over there either, nothing, nada. The brush was getting very dense and I had to fight to get through. Once through the brushy part I encountered a hugh rockfall and the water in the creek bed all of a sudden disappeared. I was getting close to Redwall and if there was a fall that should be where it was. At 10:30 I stopped for a rest and to check my map. I was hoping that the water was still running beneath surface.

At 11:00 I hit the end of the road. There was no waterfall but there was a spectacular Redwall amphitheatre and I could see where there might be a couple/few huge falls if there had been water to feed them. I never reached the other fork in the creek because the Redwall amphitheater was basically it. I took some photos, rested a while, and then started back. I reached stream fork around 12:30 and stopped for lunch until 13:00. It was a very pretty spot and it was very soothing, listening to the creek and the birds in the area, while eating my lunch.

I stopped at the ruins again on the way back and looked around a bit more than the other day. I found a lot of the missing artifacts in another section of the site. There were lots of pieces scattered about - by the wind maybe? I still did not see everything I remembered from my last visit and wondered what was going on here. I collected the scattered items, set them back out on some rocks and took some photos to match with older ones taken on a prior visit.

I finally got back to camp around 15:00 and decided to relax there for the remainder of the day. I washed my hair and that felt really good after three days on the trail. I also waded in the creek and read a little of my book.

At 17:00 it was time for supper. I had the Natural High Cheese Enchilada and it was not bad but there was way too much of it. I ate it all anyway and felt really stuffed afterewards. I figured I would burn it all the next day no problem, on the hike over to Sumner Wash.
