Grand Canyon National Park - Trail Washout - July 1999

The following photos show some of the damage incurred by the Bright Angel and North Kaibab Trails as a result of the heavy rains and ensuing flash flood that occurred during the week of July 12, 1999. Both trails are expected to have some closure along all of part of their routes for the next three weeks. The Bright Angel Trail is currently closed for its entire length and the North Kaibab Trail is closed between Cottonwood Camp to just north of Phantom Ranch. All photos shown here are courtesy of Ranger Chuck Sypher, the ranger at Indian Gardens.
