Mule Trips into the Grand Canyon

I, personally, have never had the desire to see the Canyon in this way, but the people I have seen do it and people I have talked to afterwards do seem to have enjoyed the experience, even though some tend to walk a little funny for a fews hours after getting off of the mule.

One hour, half day, full day and overnight mule trips are available. The one hour and half day trips are only available on the north rim and the overnight trips are only available from the south rim. The one hour rim ride skirts the edge of the Canyon but does not enter down into it. Two half day trips are available, one to Uncle Jim Point, which again does not enter the Canyon, and another which goes down into the Canyon and along the North Kaibab Trail to the Supai Tunnel. The single day mule trip on the south rim will take you down the Bright Angel Trail to Indian Gardens and on to Plateau Point, from where you will have an excellent view of the Colorado River. The full day trip on the north rim goes down the North Kaibab Trail to Roaring Springs. A sack lunch is provided on both full day trips. The overnight mule trips descend via the Bright Angel Trail and River Trail all the way to Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Canyon. Accommodations at the ranch as well as meals are included.

The mule trips are strenuous and only be attempted by those in good physical condition. All riders must be able to understand English, be taller than 4 feet 7 inches, and weigh no more than 200 pounds when fully clothed.
