Wednesday, May 4, 2011 - 12:15pm : The patio at Deer Creek

Last night was beautiful and we all slept well. We were up around sunrise for breakfast and then Janice and I went for a day hike in search of the dry lake bed above and on the west side of Deer Creek. I had some waypoints in my GPS for where the center of the lake bed was and what I thought was the most likely route for getting to it based on looking at the topo map and we were successful in getting there. We even spotted a few cairns along the way and some portions even looked almost like trail. It was very nice to finally get up there and the lake bed itself was very impressive. The hike took longer than expected because we spent so much time wandering around the lake bed and taking photos. Janice even ran a lap about halfway around the outside (north and west sides). We left camp around 7:30 and did not get back until almost 11. Now we are just hanging out here for the afternoon and will have dinner down here again tonight as well. I am probably going to make another trip down to the falls at the river to catch it in sunlight.

Wednesday, May 4, 2011 - 7:00pm : Deer Creek Camp

We had a nice time lounging around on the patio and playing in the water this afternoon. I went under and in the normal "dunking" waterfalls at the top of the narrows but then John and I also got into a much larger one further on down at the south end of the patio.

Later in the afternoon Janice and I went down to the river again. It was too late already to catch the sunlight on the falls but we did meet up with some people on a river trip. I managed to scoff a beer for myself and then got another one for John by agreeing to get blasted by the spray and wind Deer Creek Falls. It felt like being sand-blasted---though I am really not sure what that would feel like and pretty sure I don't want to know.

We had dinner again on the patio---Pad Tai tonight---and then went back up to camp for the evening.
