Well, I didn't set any record hiking out of the Canyon on this trip but considering I did the hike out in tevas I didn't do so bad. It was very pleasant hiking in the morning along the Clear Creek Trail before the Sun came up and then along the Colorado River just after sunrise.

7:00 - Phantom Ranch

I was up a little after 4:00 and out of camp just a little after 5:00. I made it to the Phantom Overlook just before 6:00 and was at Phantom Ranch by 6:30. I got some coffee and ate my bagel with peanut butter and blueberry preserves and now I am just about ready to start the hike out. With any luck I will be at Indian Garden by 10:00 or so.

My feet felt a little tired from the downhill when I first arrived here but they feel fine now.

12:00 - Three-mile resthouse

I arrived at Indian Garden around 10:30 and left there around 10:50. I was hoping to be out by around 1:00 but I don't see that happening. Maybe be 2:00? The weather has bee nice and cool and there has been a lot of shade. The feet are feeling tired and a little sore in the soles but not too bad. Only 3 more miles to go!

15:15 - Maswik Lodge cafeteria

I didn't hit the rim until 2:45---certainly no records were set on this one. But I am out and I don't feel too bad. The feet are tired but seem no worse for the ordeal. The parts there were hurting still hurt and it will be interesting to see what everything looks like when I get the socks off later. I got funny looks from some people when they noticed the huge backpack and then the tevas on my feet. Probably thought I was a nut case. We won't go there.

Right now I am chowing down on some non-backpacking food.
