06:48 - Maswik Lodge

This is the first live entry into the Pocket PC in almost two weeks now. I am a little rushed as Mike will be picking me up in a little while and I need to get out of here.

I spent most of the day with Mike yesterday just hanging out (and eating) on the south rim. We had breakfast at Chucks place and shortly after that Dave took off to head down to Phoenix to spend some time with his daughter. We ran some errands in the village area with Chuck in the morning and then he took off for Flagstaff.

We got an awesome private tour of the lower levels of the Kolb Studio from Mike Bucheit of the Grand Canyon Association. This is the area where Emery Kolb actually lived with his wife and daughter and it was very cool. Some of the furniture is original and even the stuff that isn't is at least still period. I never knew that place was down there. It was very cool!

We had lunch at Maswik Lodge and then went out to Hopi Point in search of a triangulation marker that Mike wanted to find. After that we stopped at the Backcountry Office to visit with some of the rangers and then I got checked into Maswik Lodge.

I called Robin and Maggi and checked in with both of them and they were both very relieved to here the trip was a success. It was awesome to hear female voices again!

I started transcribing the entries from my notebook into my Pocket PC and worked on that yesterday afternoon, evening and this morning and I have done 89 out of 112 pages so far. I was hoping to get it all done but its not going to happen. I can probably finish it up on the flight home. I don't see having any more time before then.

Last night Mike and I went into Tusayan to the pizza place for dinner and then he dropped me back here again. This morning we are having breakfast at Cafe Tusayan and then heading down to Flagstaff for the Grand Canyon Historical Society board meeting. I will be meeting with the real estate agent after that and hopefully seeing some more houses. Then at 4:00 I am supposed to meet Maggi over at Macys and we head back up here. Woo Hoo!

I gotta run. I still gotta try to call the El Tovar and make a dinner reservation for tonight.

12:52 - Macys, Flagstaff

The only dinner reservation available at the El Tovar was at 9:45 this evening so I didn't bother. That really sucks as was really looking forward to taking Maggi there. I know she would not want to wait that late to eat though and neither would I really. We will figure something else out.

Mike picked me up right on time at 7:00 and we had breakfast at Cafe Tusayan in Tusayan on the way to Flagstaff. The ride down was very pleasant and the aspens turning to gold were awesome as we drove through the San Francisco peaks area.

The Grand Canyon Historical Society is over now and lunch was taking forever to order so I decided to split and come over here instead. Plus, this way I get to do more work on getting the trip journal transcribed.
