Robin and I were up around 6:30. The morning was very cool and I was happy to have my jacket with me. We had bagles with cream cheese and peanut butter for breakast. Mike headed out to do some scouting up East Clear Creek to look for camping location for his upcoming trip. Before he leaves he tells us that Bil Vandergraf should be here around 10 or so and that we should all try to stick close to camp.

I headed up along Clear Creek for a short hike and to take some photos. I only went as far as Obi Canyon and then headed back to camp. I got back to camp around 9:30.

Bil showed up around 10:30. We talked for a while and then he explains what he is looking to have us do: identifying and measuring campsite cores, matching old photos ad taking new photos to show changes...

We broke for lunch around noon. Robin and I finished up the ham from last nights dinner as sandwhiches. She just put mayonaise on hers but I made a ham salad by chopping up the ham and adding some cream cheese and relish. It was very tasty.

After lunch we went back to work and tried to actually do some campsites. Matching the photos with actual campsites was not easy, mostly because we were trying to do this from slides which are not easy to view unless you happen to have a slide viewer with you, which we did not. It would be easier with prints and Bil said that the park is thinking of using a new system that would use digitized images printed right on the campsite survey sheets.

We finished up with the campsite surveys around 3:00 and went for a dayhike up to the ruins near Obi Canyon in the late afternoon. We got back for dinner just as it was getting dark and had to use flashlights to finish up. I made some chicken soup for Robin and she had a PB sandwhich on pita bread with it. I made rice and beans for myself. It was good but it takes too long to cook so is not really a good camp meal.

After dinner we talked for a while and then retreated to our tent, read a while longer and finally hit the sack.
