05:30 Get up, eat breakfast and start packing up site.
07:00 Start hike out. Bret and Mike just passed by on their way up to Tilted Mesa. I am about 5 minutes behind them.
10:05 On Tilted Mesa. Caught up with Bret and Mike along the way. Took some nice photos of them. Mike pushed way ahead and got to Tilted Mesa about 10-15 minutes ahead of us. Some one else passed me along the way. I hung back with Bret for the most part - good hiking speed for me.

Eat a little food and drink some water to prepare for next leg of hike.

11:30 Leave Tilted Mesa and begin long traverse over to Marion Point.
13:30 In the shade just north of Marion Point. Hang out here for a while. Eat some lunch.
15:00 Head over to Marion Point. I took the penthouse camp site. Rest of group took the big clearing just off of the trail.

There was a little incident with some backpackers who tried to steal water that was cached at Marion Point and did not belong to them. They claimed they needed it and that I guess, at least in their minds, entitled them to it. They drank some water from a big one-gallon jug and took off with a Platypus bladder. Mike went after them and made them give it back.

To Lois from Pittsburgh: You are your group are major losers and you've got no business hiking in the Canyon if you can't better prepare yourselves for its rigors. I don't suppose it occurred to you that someone who planned better than you might be relying on that water?

There are lots of clouds in the sky and a big storm is passing to the south and east of us. People are getting worried about the weather for tonight. No way for them to setup their tarp here. I can always put my rain fly on the tent but it won't be easy where I am camped.

16:15 Have dinner around sunset. Watch the storm and the lightening. It's going to be an interesting evening.

Near dark, NPS BCO people show up. Never seen so many people out here. Tell them the story about the people who tried to steal the water. As it turns out, it belongs to them. They are not pleased and plan to track Lois down when they get out and write her a letter.
