The Palisades of the Desert and Colorado River as seen from the Escalante Route

Friday, December 30, 1994

Greetings Webmates,

The picture above is another one that I took from the top of the bluff overlooking Unkar Creek. This one is looking east towards were my campsite was. The cliffs in the back are the Palisades of the Desert.

Today I had to leave my waterfront campsite and head back up into Tanner Canyon towards the rim. Tonight I am camped near the base of Escalante Butte and tomorrow I only have a few more miles to go to the trailhead. This will be the steepest section of the trail though and will probably be the most difficult. The hike up to this point today was not too bad except for the lower section on Asinine Hill. Today's hike was just a long gradual uphill climb. The watchtower at Desert View was visible all day like a beacon as I hiked towards the rim.

More tomorrow,
Grand Canyon Bob
