What is the Grand Canyon Pioneers Society?

The Grand Canyon Pioneers Society is a group of people interested in the study and preservation of historical sites, photographs, and artifacts of Grand Canyon and the surrounding areas. We also support the restoration of sites and buildings at Grand Canyon National Park.

Who can join the Grand Canyon Pioneers Society?

Anyone interested in Grand Canyon History and who likes having a good time.

What does the Society do?

The group usually meets monthly for a program or to visit some historic site. The society is an informal and congenial group who has fun and learns about the area at the same time. We usually make a picnic out of these excursions and enjoy a social visit as we eat.

With the Wings of an Angel by William C. Suran was never published but is available online. Click here or on the cover in the photo above.

The History of the GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK by Margaret M. Verkamp is also available on-line.

We have established a collection of historical materials at the Northern Arizona University's Cline Library in Flagstaff, Arizona, where letters, papers and photographs are cataloged and stored archivally for research.

The Society publishes a monthly newsletter The Ol' Pioneer that is sent to each member giving information concerning upcoming and past events of the group, and stories of old time happenings at Grand Camyon written by members giving tales of Grand Canyon never found in history books.
